Breakthrough Role
When she was just starting out, Kate distanced herself from the shadows of her parents in an attempt to establish her own career. She started with several smaller roles, though her breakout role proved to be her performance in the critically-acclaimed film Almost Famous. As Penny Lane, the young actress was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the movie, her character was a “band-aid” or a groupie for the band Stillwater.
