Hard Work
Faith Hill made the decision to re-enter the music business in 1998 with the release of her third album Faith. The new album showed off her evolution to a mainstream, pop-oriented sound, although it still had a distinct country sound. “This Kiss” became a number one country hit, and was also the first of her singles to place at the pop charts, at number seven. The album also featured hits with Tim McGraw, “Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me”, “Let Me Let Go” and “The Secret of Life”.
Tensions
In 2000, Hill would record a song for the movie Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, entitled “Where Are You Christmas.. The song appeared on both charts, pop and country. However Hill’s success on the pop charts upset some of the country music insiders. They questioned if she was trying to ignore and behind her country roots and jump into the pop genre. Despite tensions, Hill won the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award – in her acceptance speech, she proudly announced, “I love this business, and I love this industry… and my heart is here.
