While filming Magnum P.I., Selleck was not really allowed to work on any other project. And seeing as how his popularity was skyrocketing, that’s a pretty tough fact to digest. Especially when you land the lead role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Selleck had to unfortunately turn the part down because it conflicted with his Magnum schedule. However, get this, filming for Magnum P.I. was actually delayed which meant that he could have done the Steven Spielberg/George Lucas blockbuster hit. What an unlucky break.

Turns out that Selleck was asked to star opposite Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria, a 1982 film. At the time Selleck was apprehensive to take on the role, by the time he did decide he wanted it, it was too late. He was already locked in for his Magnum contract, the very same one that cost him the role of Indiana Jones.
