The students headed all the way there to ensure that the money from the couch would go to the right person. They did not have ulterior motives when they did this. However, the elderly woman wanted to reward them for their efforts by handing them $1,000 from her savings. She did not doubt they deserved this amount. They might not be able to buy a car, go on vacation, or fully pay off their loans with this, but it was more than they bargained for when they bought the $20 couch. Moreover, the experience taught them an important lesson. They no longer had any doubts in their mind that they did the right thing. It even led them to a revelation!
